Lorraine, so sorry you have to go through this, its so stupid!!! just because you may be up to doing 2 hours max at a voluntary job doesnt mean you are suddenly cured and can work full time doing anything they recommend!!! the system is just a nightmare, made to make everything more difficult. Where does it leave you, does it mean you cant do it?Huh

aw Lorraine u could do without this!
Maybe call and ask to speak to that persons manager for clarification and support. Sounds like you have cause to make a complaint - shouldnt make you feel like this no matter what their "rules" are, they are there to provide answers not cause stress.

Take care, thinking of you love Liz xx

Hi Lorraine,

I'm off to see my Working Links advisor this morning and I'm going to ask her about this. I'll let you know what I find out.

Hang in there and DON'T LET THE B*******RS GET YOU DOWN!

x x

Hi Lorraine,

Something is not right here! The job centre should know that there is something called "therapeutic Work" which is permitted even when you are on benefits. There is also something called "therapeutic earnings" where a disabled person on benefits can work a certain number of hours a week and earn a small amount of money (not sure of the amount) and not have their benefits reduced.

I suggest seeking advice from the CAB as you definitely have cause for complaint.

Good luck,

love,

Barbara

Hi Lorraine,

I've just come back from my appointment with my Working Links advisor and asked about voluntary work.

She was very very clear. Whilst claiming ESA, you may work voluntarily without any impact on your benefits. I'm also doing around two hours a week and she said that was absolutely fine so long as I wasn't earning anything. I asked if there were any forms to fill in and she said no.

You should have been allocated an advisor when you started your ESA claim process (after the initial 13 weeks) and that's the person I'd try to contact.

It seems to me, some of them just don't know their bums from their elbows.

Keep us up to date with how you get on x x
